With deep expertise in water management, Tom specialises in the control of Legionella, Pseudomonas, and other opportunistic waterborne pathogens across diverse environments, including commercial, leisure, dental, and healthcare facilities.

Industry Contributions & Research

Tom has been at the forefront of research into the growth and control of Legionella and Pseudomonas in domestic water systems and healthcare premises. His contributions include:

• Authored the first UK City & Guilds accredited Pseudomonas training (March 2012).

• Appointed as an Authorising Engineer (Water) for multiple NHS Trusts.

• Member of the Department of Health Technical Committee for the 2016 Health Technical Memorandum 04-01 (HTM 04-01).

• Appointed to the BSI Committee for the development of:

  • BS 7592:2020 – Sampling for Legionella bacteria in water systems.

  • BS 8580:2020 – Risk assessment for Legionella control.

  • BS 7592-2 – Sampling for Pseudomonas and other waterborne pathogens (currently in production).

Tom is also an active member of the Water Management Society Council, Technical Committee, and Healthcare Technical Committee.
